NOTES ON NEWS

Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
tv, news paper, radio, and internet. reporting of current events




List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1. unusualness: news is the different, the unusual, the out of the ordinary. why is the news alwase bad? unusual is more often found in bad news.

2.significance: important events that affect many people, are news. TAXES, ELECTIONS,WARS,ECONOMY,  and these are significant

3. timeliness: old news isn't news : its HISTORY, people want to hear about things in the presant.

4.proximity: the near by events, people want to hear about these things. things that are in the presant. local appartment fire,, example

5. prominence: when well known people, places buildings are involved. that is news. if somone famous is arrested, then that is news.

6.human interest: stories that are physically touching to peoples feelings, 911 was a  big one, same with the 35w bridge.
